The Usability Designer gathers information on user needs and goals (from user
research or on their own), and creates innovative information organization
structures, interaction designs, page-level content organization, navigation,
and prototypes. User Centered Design methodology helps define the
organizational structure for all other deliverables impacting user
experience. The Usability Designer promotes communication and collaboration
among project members by gathering and disseminating ideas from all disciplines within the UCD methodology.
Required Skills:
Degree in design, architecture, HCI or related discipline or equivalent
experience. Familiar with concepts of user-centred design. Strong analytical
skills. Good writing and communication skills. Ability to synthesize many
data into coherent information design direction. Relevant application (Visio,
PowerPoint, Illustrator, etc.) and design process expertise. Experience
working on Web/software/multimedia development teams. Good client
interaction/negotiation skills. Some experience (knowledge of) in information
architecture/user interface design. Willingness to learn about and contribute
to evolution of laboratory hardware/software configurations.
